Today's Shoes

Day

Gravati plain-toe side-elastic shoes in dark burgundy Radica 055 calf with single leather soles (16624, 683 last). Most side-elastic shoes have the elastic gores covered by leather straps to camouflage them. The leather straps give look a bit like gills, which makes some people dislike them. They also make the gores more difficult to replace. As for myself, I think that they make the shoes look better -- big black straps of elastic aren't aesthetically pleasing to me.

Evening

Gravati cap-toe bals with reversed seams and leather-stitched faux brogueing on the toe caps and throats in tobacco suede with single leather soles (16492, 655 last).

Today's Shoes

Day

Gravati plain-toe side-elastic shoes in Radica 055 calf (16624, 683 last). Side elastic shoes are wonderful, and the deep burgundy of the Radica 055 calf went very well with my brand new olive trousers from Chris Despos.

Evening

Santoni two-eyelet chukka boots in caramel brown calf with a rubber sole. These are another pair of rain shoes, and it's stormy in Houston tonight.

Today's Shoes

Day

Gravati plain-toe side-elastics in burgundy (055) Radica calf (16624, 683 last). Have I mentioned recently how useful side-elastic shoes are?

Evening

Ferragamo wing-tip bluchers in cognac calf. These shoes are about five years ago, and I would be surprised if I've worn them in the last three. They epitomize both what is good and what is not good about Ferragamo. On the good side of the equation is the sleek round toe, the color of the calfskin, and the unusual sunburst medallion design. On the bad side is that, attractive though the last may be, it doesn't have good fit characteristics: it's too long, it's too full in the forefoot, and the heels are too wide. At least for me. In addition, they're not made as well as they should be for shoes that were as expensive as these were. Of course, once the shoes are in one's closet, it doesn't matter what one paid for them. It only matters whether one gets good use out of them. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten very good use out of them.

Today's Shoes

Day

Gravati plain-toe side elastic shoes in Radica 055 (deep burgundy -- 16624, last 683). Harold's in the Heights had this shoe made up in black calf with close-cut soles for use as a formal shoe. I liked the pattern so much that I did a special order of the pattern in Radica. Side-elastic shoes are tremendously versatile, and I like them a great deal. I'll have to redo this pattern in other configurations.

Evening

Martegani Cortona penny loafers in British tan calf. Yes, I've posted about these before. Even I have to repeat shoes sometimes. It just goes to shoe that I could use some more loafers. I'm thinking of a long-vamp penny from Gravati in a mid-brown shade of some grained leather. That'd fit the bill.
