The Worst Intersection In Houston

Well, it might not actually be the absolute worst intersection in Houston, but it is the one that causes me the most annoyance. It's intersection of Spur 527 and Elgin in Midtown. Actually, it's the intersection where Spur 527 changes into Brazos St. and Westheimer Rd. changes into Elgin St. There are three main problems. First, there's one of those red light cameras at the light as you're going from Spur 527 onto Brazos, which makes you deathly afraid of having the light change as you go through the intersection. Second, there is no pedestrian walk/don't walk light at the intersection, so it's impossible to get a sense of when the light is about to change. Third, an HPD car has a habit of camping out at the next intersection up Brazos (Rosalie St.) to catch speeders coming off Spur 527. So, because of the red light camera and the lack of pedestrian crossing lights, your tendency is to speed up when approaching the intersection to make sure that you make it through on green, but HPD has a speed trap immediately after the intersection, which is made all the worse by the fact that the speed limit on Spur 527 is 50 while the speed limit on Brazos is 30. In other words, it seems like the City of Houston crafted this intersection with the express purpose of generating as much revenue as possible from it, not to make it safe or anything boring like that.
