Last Night's Tipple

Cherry Coke (as produced by the Coca-Cola Company) is good enough for what it is, but it lacks the essential charm of a fountain Cherry Coke made from Coke and cherry syrup. If made properly, the latter version has enough cherry syrup to flavor the soda with enough left over to form a big old reservoir of sweet cherry goodness at the bottom of the glass. It's the same principle as partially stirred-up fruit-on-the-bottom yogurt. Well, now there are self-serve soda dispensers that also have little dispensers with cherry, vanilla, and lemon syrup; so you can create your own fountain-style Cherry Coke. Or Cherry Dr. Pepper, which is even better. Genius, I tell you.

I actually had to call Mamacita last year on the way to Chrystal City when I found a gas station dispenser that let you add your own syrup to your Coke. Needless to say, I stopped there on my way back to Houston as well.

I've always thought there was something fundamentally wrong with canned drinks with 'additive' flavors, and I think you nailed it on the head.
