Brilliant!

I noticed today while driving in downtown Houston that the city has replaced the walk/don't walk signs at traffic lights with new ones that visibly count down the number of seconds before a light turns yellow In other words, once the walk/don't walk sign switches from walk to blinking don't walk, a timer starts counting down on the sign. That way, drivers know well short of the intersection whether the light is going to change soon or not. Brilliant! At least, as long as they stay functional and synchronized with the actual stop light (which it wasn't at the corner of Elgin and Smith).
